Women's Golf Finishes Second at Lady Buckeye Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State women's golf team finished second out of 15 teams at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, Sunday (April 22) in Columbus, Ohio. The Spartans shot 300-306-294=900 for the tournament, finishing just one stroke behind host Ohio State at 311-304-284=899. Northwestern placed third (308-307-297=912) while Kent State placed fourth (312-309-299=920).
Four Spartans finished in the individual top 10, with junior Stacy Snider (Grand Rapids, Mich.) leading the team on the final day. Snider shot a career-low 69 on Sunday to finish third at 223 (77-77-69), three behind the individual champion Natalie Alber from Ohio State (74-79-67=220). Alber won the championship playoff against Kent State's Martina Gillen (73-74-73=220).
Senior Kasey Gant (Fort Wayne, Ind.) closely followed Snider and tied for fourth place at 72-76-76=224. Sophomore Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) greatly contributed to the Spartan effort, firing 75-73-77=225 for a career-best sixth-place finish. Junior Emily Bastel (Upper Sandusky, Ohio) tied for eighth, shooting 76-80-72=228.
This was the Spartans' last regular-season invitational. The MSU golfers will head to Minneapolis, Minn., for the 2001 Big Ten Championship, April 27-29.
