Two Gymnasts Compete at 2001 NCAA Individual Championship

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two Michigan State men's gymnasts completed competition at the 2001 NCAA Championships on Saturday (April 8), hosted by The Ohio State University.
Sophomore Brad Golden (Orlando, Fla.) finished second on the vault with a season-high 9.375, behind Ohio State's Daren Lynch who scored a 9.500. Golden also finished third on the floor exercise with a 9.287, behind Minnesota's Clay Strother (9.525) and Oklahoma's Brendan O'Neil (9.487).
Junior Jonathan Plante (Easton, Pa.), who has been ranked No. 1 in the nation on the pommel horse since Feb. 26, finished fifth on the pommel horse (8.825).
During the season both Golden and Plante were named to the 2001 All-Big Ten Team. Plante was named Gymnast of the Week on Wed., Feb. 28 by the Big Ten Conference. Golden won the floor exercise at the 2001 Big Ten Championships, while Plante won the pommel horse.
