BlOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Michigan State women's golf team will return to East Lansing with their third tournament win this season. The Spartans took first at the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington with a strong push in the final round scoring 295, eight strokes under their 313 in the second round. The final team score for the Spartans was 922 (314-313-295) for the two-day event. Kent State took second at 312-317-304=933.
Junior Emily Bastel (Upper Sandusky, Ohio) was the individual champion, firing 74-73-76=223. The third-round performance of junior Stacy Snider (Grand Rapids, Mich.)and senior Kasey Gant (Fort Wayne, Ind.) moved the Spartans into a solid first place position. Snider shot a 71 on the final day to tie a season low and provide a third place finish (77-78-71=226). Gant scored a season low 70, improving to 21st place from 57th with a final score of 239 (83-86-70). Sarah Martin (Gross Ile, Mich.) shot 87-79-78=244 to tie for 36th, while Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio) finished 51st with a score of 80-83-85=248.
The Spartans look to finish strong at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio April 21-22 prior to competing in the Big Ten Championships.
