Baseball Hands Out Season Awards

East Lansing, Mich. - The Spartan baseball team handed out their post-season awards last night at the team's annual awards banquette. Sophomore Bob Malek (Canton), who led the team in ten offensive categories and also broke the MSU single-season record for hits with 88, took home the team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors. Freshman Bryan Gale (Decatur), led the team in wins with a 9-1 record and was second with a 3.53 ERA, was named Pitcher Of The Year.
Brady Burrill (Newhall, Calif.) took home honors for Most Improved Player after leading the team in RBI with 44. The Most Valuable Defensive Player Award and the Bullpen Club Academic Award went to sophomore Charlie Braun (Grosse Pointe), who had a .968 fielding percentage as well as 4.0 GPA for the semester.
The Craig Hendricks Sportsmanship Award went to junior Kevin Crews (Hinckley, Ohio) for his sportsmanship and his outstanding service to the community.
The Spartans finished the year 29-27 and missed out on Big Ten post-season play.
