Spartans Fall To No.18 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - LeeAnn Bies scored 17 points, Jennifer Smith added 14, and they controlled the backboards as No. 18 Michigan defeated Michigan State 58-45 Wednesday night.
They had 11 rebounds apiece, and Bies made 11-of-12 free throws for Michigan (11-3), which won for the first time in three Big Ten games.
Syreeta Bromfield scored 14 points for Michigan State (9-3, 0-2), which lost its fourth straight against Michigan.
Smith scored seven points as the Wolverines opened the second half on a 15-6 run. It culminated with Alayne Ingram's first points of the game on a running 15-footer, giving the Wolverines a 42-32 advantage in front of a school-record crowd of 4,538 at Crisler Arena.
The Spartans pulled within six points with 2:55 left on baskets by Bromfield and Kelli Roehrig. But a 3-pointer by Ingram and Stephanie Gandy's layup gave Michigan a nine-point lead.
Ingram finished with 11 points, nine in the second half. The Wolverines shot 37 percent to Michigan State's 30 percent.
