EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team recorded its first draw of the season Friday (Oct. 18) afternoon in Evanston, Ill., tying Northwestern, 1-1. It was the first tie of the season for the Spartans, whose record now stands at, 10-5-1 and 5-3-1 in Big Ten play. Northwestern is now 4-7-3 overall and 2-5-2 in conference play.
Tiffany Laskowski (Jr., Troy) scored her eighth goal of the season from 15 yards out at the 20:45 mark to put MSU out front early. Abby Shepherd (So., Milford) drew the only assist on the goal. The goal came on the Spartans' only shot of the half.
A rebound goal by Northwestern's Molly Greene off a free kick at the 48:12 mark tied the game at one. The Wildcats continued to pressure the Spartans, recording 12 shots in the second half to the Spartans two.
In overtime, Laskowski nearly scored her second goal of the game as she sprung open down the side of the field but fired a shot just wide of the net.
The Spartans' Stacy Heller (Jr., Madison, Wis.) continued her marvelous play in goal for MSU this season, making nine saves in the game.
MSU returns to action Sunday (Oct. 20) when it hosts Detroit at 1:00 p.m. at Old College Field.
