Elkhart, Ind. - Michigan State's women's crew dominated its last team meet of the fall season Sunday (Oct. 27) at The Head of the Elk in Elkhart, Ind. The event hosted over 35 teams varying from high school to club to collegiate levels.
The Spartans got off to a winning start by placing first and third in the first event of the day, women's pairs. MSU's "B" boat came in first at 16:39.9 while the "A" boat posted a time of 16:56.4 placing third, just behind an Indiana University boat.
Michigan State also finished first out of 21 boats in the women's varsity "A" four and first out of 15 in the varsity "B" four. The team racked up first and second place during the women's varsity "C" four event as well, with times of 16:17.5 and 16:33.0 respectively.
In the open eight, MSU's "A" boat came in more than eleven seconds ahead of the University of Michigan's "B" entry, while the Spartan "B" crew snagged third place in the event.
The two-and-a-half mile course didn't prove much of a challenge for MSU's novice team either. Coming in third during the novice eight was the Spartan "A" boat, following Mercyhurst and Michigan. The MSU novice team posted two first-place finishes for the day, one in each the novice "B" eight and the novice "C" eight.
"It was a great team effort," MSU's head coach Bebe Bryans said. "It was a great way to wrap up our team season."
This marks the last team event for women's crew this fall. The varsity eight will head to Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 10 to compete at the Head of the Lake.
