MSU Men's Cross Country Places Eighth At NCAA Regionals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Michigan State men's cross country team placed eighth out of 31 teams Sunday at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships hosted by Purdue. No. 4 Wisconsin won the regional title with 57 points, followed by No. 7 Eastern Michigan (70 points), No. 9 Central Michigan (123), No. 20 Indiana (124), No. 17 Ohio State (138), No. 18 Michigan (142), No. 21 Butler (145) and No. 28 Michigan State (208).
Sophomore Chris Toloff (Novi) led the Spartan contingent, finishing the 10k course in 13th place with a time of 30:55.8. Junior Andrew Marsh (Grand Ledge) also finished strong, placing 17th with a time of 31:00.6. Toloff improved on his 22nd-place time from last year's NCAA regional by nearly 36 seconds, while Marsh beat his 21st-place time from last year by almost 26 seconds.
Junior Jason Mueller (Shelby, Ohio) was next for MSU, finishing in 45th with a time of 31:46.7. The other point scorers for MSU were sophomore Steve Sherer (Saline), who was 40th in 31:54.4, and sophomore Mike Thorson (Port Elgin, Ont.), who was 83rd in 32:49.6.
Also competing for MSU, which finished third in last year's regional, was junior James Johnson (Eaton Rapids), who was 84th in 32:51.2, and sophomore Warren Kruger (Gregory), who placed 115th in 33:27.5.
MSU has a chance of receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, which will be held Monday, Nov. 25, in Terre Haute, Ind.
