TOP STORY: State opened the 2002 season last weekend in Las Vegas at the Rebel Invitational where the team went 2-1 to open the season. This weekend's series in Charlotte marks the begining of the team's spring trip where the Green and White will play eight games in nine days. The Spartans will also take on Furman, Wofford and Charleston Southern.
LEADING OFF PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior Brady Burrill was recognized for his accomplishments last weekend by being named Big Ten Player of the Week for Feb. 25. Burrill hit .583 over the weekend, which included a 4-for-4 performance that featured two home runs and five RBI in MSU's win over UC-Santa Barbara. On the weekend he recorded nine RBI and a 1.333 slugging percentage.
BIG TIME O: The Spartans opened their season in a big way offensively last weekend in Las Vegas. State bats combined for 42 runs and 50 hits, including 10 home runs in three games. Unfortunately the Spartan pitching staff did not fare as well, surrendering 39 runs.
SHARP CONTRAST: The Spartans have gotten off to a much better offensive start in 2002 than a season ago. Here is a breakdown through the first three games of this season compared to last:

6's WILD: Two Spartans went six-for-six in games last week. Chris McCuiston went did the job vs. UC-Santa Barbara, collecing five runs and five RBI. Bob Malek also reached the feat, going six-for-six in a losing effort vs. Creighton, scoring four times and knocking two doubles.
