NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 21 Michigan State wrestling team lost to No. 6 Oklahoma, 38-3, Friday (March 1) night in Norman, Okla. With the loss, the Spartans fall to 5-12 overall.
The meet began at 184 pounds where No. 7 Josh Lambrecht of Oklahoma won a 13-0 major decision over Nathaniel Mesyn (So., Clinton Twp.). At 197 pounds, No. 12 Tom Grossman edged the Spartans' John Wechter (Jr., Saginaw), 7-5.
In the heavyweight match, Michigan State's Michael Keenan (So., Columbus, Ohio) lost to No. 3 Leonce Crump of Oklahoma.
No. 13 Chris Williams (Sr., Perry), attempting to win his 99th career match at Michigan State, lost a 6-2 decision to No. 6 Matt Ridings.
At 133 pounds, No. 4 Witt Durden (OU) won via forfeit while No. 13 Nate Parker (OU) defeated Charles Sageman (Jr., Saginaw) at 133 pounds.
The 149-pound match went to No. 5 Jared Frayer (OU), who defeated No. 13 Karl Nadolsky (Jr., Holland) 4-0.
Michigan State got its only victory of the night as No. 9 Gray Maynard (Jr,, Las Vegas) earned an 3-1 decision over Oklahoma's Doug Cieleski in the 157-pound match.
Oklahoma closed out the final two matches with victories. No. 9 Robbie Waller downed No. 17 Anton Hall (Jr., Ada) and No 18 Michael Barger snapped No. 10 Rashad Evans' (Jr., Niagara Falls, N.Y.) seven-match winning streak.
Michigan State returns to action at the Big Ten Championships March 9-10 in Champaign, Ill.
