POTTSBORO, Texas - The Michigan State men's golf team is in first place after two rounds of the Pepsi-Cola Invitational Saturday (March 23) at the Tanglewood Golf Course in Pottsboro, Texas. The Spartans shot a team score of (295-291) 586 and are nine shots ahead of second-place Rollins College.
Junior co-captain Eric Jorgensen (Big Rapids, Mich.) leads the team as he fired a (74-70) 144, good for a share of second place overall.
Sophomores J.J. Beckstrom (North Muskegon, Mich.) and Casey Lubahn (Sand Lake, Mich.) are both tied for fifth place as they each carded a two-round score of 145. Lubahn is competing unattached this weekend for the Spartans.
Senior co-captain Nathan Clark (Mason, Mich.), the fourth Spartan in the top 10, shot a (73-74) 147 and is tied for eighth place.
Freshman Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon, Mich.) finished the day tied for 14th place as he recorded a (75-75) 150. Junior John Koskinen (Baraga, Mich.) shot a (75-76) 151 and is tied for 17th place.
The final round of play is Sunday (March 24) as the Spartans look to capture their first tournament championship of the season.
