EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State sophomore pitcher Bryan Gale (Decatur) was named Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week, Monday (April 22). He shared the award with Illinois' Dave Mazurek. In MSU's 11-0 victory over Michigan last Friday, Gale threw his first-career complete-game shutout, allowing six hits, while striking out six to improve his record to 5-2 on the year. Gale, a 2001 Freshman All-American, is the first MSU pitcher to earn conference pitcher of the week honors this season.
Last weekend, the Spartans took three of four games from Michigan and now stand second in the Big Ten with a 9-6 conference record and a 26-9 overall mark. The Spartans return to action, Wednesday (April 24), when they host Central Michigan at 7 p.m. at Lansing's Oldsmobile Park. MSU resumes Big Ten play, April 26-28, when they travel to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes in a four-game set.
