MSU Baseball Falls At Northwestern, 6-3

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern used a five-run sixth inning to down the Michigan State baseball team by a score of 6-3, Friday (April 4). With the win, NU improved to 8-13, while State dropped to 17-6, each team is now 2-3 in the Big Ten.
A flare single by Brady Burrill (Jr., Newhall, Calif.), who went 2-4, scored Bob Malek (Jr., Canton) in the first to give State a 1-0 advantage. A RBI-triple by Northwestern's Jon Mikrut tied the game at one in the second.
The Wildcats grabbed a 6-1 lead in the sixth frame, scoring five runs off five hits and one Spartan error.
Brett Wattles (Jr., Rochester) crushed a two-run home run to right field in the seventh inning to pull MSU within three at 6-3, but that was as close as the Spartans would get.
Northwestern starter Gabe Ribas retired nine straight MSU batters at one point to improve to 3-2. James Haap picked up his third save. MSU starter Bryan Gale (So., Decatur) went six innings, giving up six runs, three earned, and striking out four
The two teams will meet again tomorrow in a double-header, beginning at 1 p.m. CST.
