Michigan State rower Krista Buzzell is the reason Bebe Bryan coaches crew at Michigan State.
Buzzell, a senior from Fenton, was an accomplished athlete in high school but came to MSU with no concept of rowing. Invited to try out her freshman year, she's now an All-American.
Buzzell's teammate, Kate Gay, is the reason some say major change is under way in NCAA women's crew. Gay, a junior from Australia, had extensive rowing experience before joining the Spartans in 2000. She's one of the team's top performers.
