Women's Soccer Suffers First Loss Of The Season

DAYTON, Ohio - A last-minute goal by Dayton gave the Michigan State women's soccer team its first loss of the season, 1-0, Sunday (Sept. 15) afternoon in Dayton, Ohio. The Spartans entered the game undefeated and had not surrendered a goal this season. MSU is now 4-1, while the Flyers improve to 5-1.
The winning goal came at the 89:11 mark when Dayton's Reba Sedlacek scored on headder off a corner kick.
Dayton out-shot the Spartans by a count of 17-8 for the game. Spartan goalkeeper Stacy Heller (Jr., Madison, Wis.) did her best to keep the Spatans in the game, making eight saves. Dayton's goal at the 89:11 mark snapped Heller's 2002 shutout streak at 418:57.
Michigan State returns to action next weekend with a pair of Big Ten home games. The Spartans will take on Illinois at 5 p.m. on Sept. 20 and Iowa at 12 noon on Sept. 22. Both games are at Old College Field.
