KENT, Ohio - The Michigan State University women's soccer team defeated Kent State on Sunday (Oct. 26), 2-0. With the win, the Spartans (10-7) achieve double digit wins for the fourth consecutive year. Kent State is 11-4-3 on the season.
At 26:05 in the first half Spartan defender Andrea Sied (Sr., Livonia) converted a penalty kick attempt to give MSU a 1-0 lead. The goal was Sied's sixth on the season, tying her for the team lead.
Michigan State extended its lead to 2-0 in the 49th minute, when senior Michelle Perun (Rochester) capitalized on a pass from sophomore Emily Wiegland (Portage).
Senior goalkeeper Stacy Heller (Madison, Wisc.) earned her fifth shutout with five saves on the afternoon. MSU has blanked six opponents this season.
Next, the Spartans head to Colorado Springs for two games next weekend. On Friday (Oct. 31) they face Colorado College at 5 p.m. EST and on Sunday (Nov. 2) they will play New Mexico at 1 p.m. EST.
