Gray Maynard, 23, has always been a darn good wrestler. He started scrapping on the mats at age 4. He brought home a national title during his senior year at St. Edward High School in Cleveland. Maynard has become a fierce competitor at the college level and an integral part of the Michigan State University team. So far this season, the co-captain has helped the Spartans become one of the top 10 teams in the nation, currently ranked No. 7. But after five years at MSU, this senior is focused on attaining his ultimate personal goal - the NCAA championship in the 157-pound class. The meet is next month.
Q. So what happened to your front teeth?
A. I just got jacked in my mouth, man. It was an elbow, two years ago at a dual at Oklahoma State. It just kept chipping away, chipping away. (The dentist) had to go up there and dig up there and pull them out. I'm getting them fixed, but it's been a long process.
