EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team fell to No. 38 Minnesota, 7-0 on Sunday (March 30) at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing. The Spartans are now 8-9 on the season and 0-5 in the Big Ten. Minnesota improves to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
The Golden Gophers shut out Michigan State on Sunday (March 30), but the Spartans have been stricken with injuries all season forcing the team to shuffle players around. Despite the adversity, MSU believes the experience will only help a program that is still young and developing with only two upperclassmen.
"We have a very talented team but we need to believe in our abilities a bit more," said assistant coach Brett Page. "We need to believe that we belong and the more experienced players need to show the less experienced players how to get it done. We battled today and we can't resort to excuses; we play with whose in the lineup and if we follow are gameplan, we know we can compete and win. We have to find a way to become more confident, and I think that experience and time will give us that"
The Spartans will continue battling for their first Big Ten win as they head to Bloomington to take on Indiana next Saturday (April 5).
