Men's Tennis Falls To No. 27 Arkansas, 5-2

The No. 72 Michigan State men's tennis squad dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 27 Arkansas on Tuesday afternoon (March 4) in the team's first action of the spring break. The match was held at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
MSU started the afternoon by capturing the doubles point. MSU's No. 1 doubles pair of Eric Simonton (Annandale, N.J.) and Cameron Marshall (Louisville, Ky.) dropped an 8-3 decision to Nathan Price and Eduardo Pacheco. However, MSU would rebound and win the next two doubles matches to earn the point. The No. 2 duo of Adam Hourani (Lansing, Mich.) and Jimmy McGuire (Columbus, Ohio) would pick up an 8-4 decision over Aleksey Bubis and Matt Roberts. Chris Mitchell (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Andy Formanczyk (Rochester Hills, Mich.) posted a come-from-behind 9-7 victory over Rohan Gajjar and Talley Parker.
Michigan State opened up singles action with a win at the No. 6 spot as Jimmy McGuire picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Matt Roberts. It would be the lone win for the Spartans as Arkansas won the other five singles matches; however, each match would go to three sets.
At No. 1 singles, Andy Formanczyk dropped a tough 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 decision to Nathan Price, while at No. 2 singles, Arkansas' Aleksey Bubis would claim a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win over Chris Mitchell.
Goran Topalo (Prague, Czech Republic), who is ranked No. 120 in the country, would fall at No. 3 singles to Eduardo Pacheco, 5-7, 6-3, 0-6. At No. 4 singles, Cameron Marshall also lost a three-set match to Adrians Zguns, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, while Eric Simonton would fall to Rohan Gajjar at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 4-6, 4-6.
Michigan State (9-3 overall) returns to action at Tulsa on Thursday, March 6.
