Rain Washes Out Final Day Of Big Red Classic

OCALA, Fla. - A driving rainstorm washed out the final day of competition at the Big Red Classic at the Lake Diamond Country Club in Ocala, Fla. The Michigan State men's golf team finished in ninth place after shooting a 36-hole total of 291-294-585 on day one.
Kent State won the tournament after shooting a 290-271-561 on day one. Austin Peay (283-287-570) placed second; Miami (Ohio) (289-282-571) was third; Xavier (289-284-573) was fourth and UNC-Greensboro (292-284-576) finished fifth.
Individually, senior Eric Jorgensen (Big Rapids, Mich.) finished tied for seventh after shooting a 3-under 141. Eastern Michigan's Korey Mahoney took medallist honors after shooting a 10-under 134.
Sophomore Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon, Mich.) finished one stroke behind Jorgensen with a 1-under 143 to place ninth.
Junior Ben Fox (Fort Wayne, Ind.) tied for 46th with a 76-74-150, while senior Lorne Don (Toronto, Ont.) tied for 52nd with a 77-74-151. Junior Casey Lubahn (Sand Lake, Mich.) with a 77-79-156 (tied for 91st) and senior John Koskinen (Baraga, Mich.) with an 82-81-163 (tied for 101st) rounded out the Spartan golfers.
Michigan State returns to action at the Alabama Spring Invitational in Tuscaloosa on March 14-16.
