Michigan State Crew Competes Against Michigan And Eastern Michigan

BELLEVILLE, Mich. - The Michigan State women's crew competed against Eastern Michigan and Michigan on Belleville Lake today (April 6). Despite frigid conditions, MSU's first and second novice teams each captured first-place finishes.
In the first race of the morning, the ninth-ranked Spartan first varsity eight posted a time of 6:36.37, finishing four seconds behind the fifth-ranked Wolverines' time of 6:32.37. The Eagles finished third with a time of 6:50.42.
MSU's second varsity boat also finished in second place at 6:43.5. UM was again able to take first place with a time of 6:40.00 as EMU finished third with a time of 7:06.32.
In the first varsity four, Michigan State finished at 7:34.32, just over five seconds behind Michigan's time of 7:29.12. Eastern Michigan placed third with a time of 8:15.23.
In the closest race of the morning, the Spartan second varsity four was edged in the last 300 meters of the 1,950-meter course to finish less than a second behind the Wolverines. MSU recorded a time of 7:46.41 compared to UM's 7:45.48.
The novice races proved to be more successful for the Spartans as they were able to capture first place in both events. The first novice eight posted a time of 7:06.06, nearly six seconds faster than Michigan's 7:11.97. The second novice eight posted a 7:17.56, bettering Michigan's 7:23.00.
MSU's women's crew returns to action in its first home regatta of the spring season Saturday (April 12) against Notre Dame on Lake Ovid.
