ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis doubles duo of senior Andrew Formanczyk (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and freshman Nick Rinks (Riga, Latvia) won once Monday, but was eventually eliminated in the semifinal round of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Michigan.
After winning three times in the previous two days, the 11th-seeded team of Formanczyk and Rinks found themselves paired against Ohio State's Scott Green and Dennis Mertens in Monday's quarterfinal round. The Spartan pair emerged victorious with an 8-6 win that propelled them into the semifinals.
With a spot in the finals on the line, Formanczyk and Rinks had their work cut out for them in the semifinals, as they battled the top-seeded duo of Ryler DeHeart and GD Jones of Illinois. The Illini tandem proved to be too much, as DeHeart and Jones escaped with an 8-4 win to move on to tommorow's final.
The MSU men's team will next compete at the Big Ten Indoor Championships Nov. 13-15 in Evanston, Ill.
