Michigan State vs. Grand Valley State
Nov. 10, 2004 - East Lansing, Mich. - Breslin Center
Final Score: Michigan State 77, Grand Valley State 62
Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo
Opening statement:
"Well, I guess you have to look at it as two halves. In the first half, we played pretty well, especially defense. You have to give those guys credit and you have to understand that it is difficult to play against a team that is as patient as (Grand Valley) was. There were a couple of things that we didn't get to do, that I would have liked to have done. ut early, I thought that we did some things that we wanted to do. We went inside, we just didn't get much production out of our inside guys. We played pretty well, defensively. We didn't rebound great in the first half. In the second half, we didn't play very well. We didn't rebound the ball very well and we didn't shoot the ball very well. We just kind of played like a team that had a 25-point lead. To Grand Valley's credit, they didn't play that way. It's hard to keep that going.
On the starting lineup:
"I don't know what to tell you... There were some things that (our starters today) did well and some things that they didn't do particularly well. Kelvin Torbert might have played the best, if you look at mistakes and things. But (the starting lineup) will change on Sunday. The decision will come with what I think is our best starting lineup. I am concerned that one or two guys maybe don't start as well as they do when they play coming off the bench. We have some work to do, but I think there are still enough pieces of the puzzle that we can have a good season."
