ANAHEIM, Calif. -
Part One
Escaping the unpredictable weather of the Midwest, Michigan State men's tennis player Anthony Stefani traveled with his teammates to the Los Angeles, Calif., area for spring break and enjoyed every minute. The junior from Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich., highlights some of the team's activities with the following journal entries from the final four days of the week-long journey:
Monday, March 8, 2004 Hottest day since we've been here as it cracked 90 degrees. We had double practice sessions, one at 9:30 and one at 1:30. Practice was very intense today with out first match coming up tomorrow. After practice we went swimming in the hotel pool. Very relaxing. For dinner we went to the ESPN Zone and played some fun games afterwards. Looking forward to the match against Cal-Irvine tomorrow!
Tuesday, March 9, 2004 Smoked Cal-Irvine, 5-2. Everyone seemed to find their rhythm. We got the doubles point, then four singles matches. The ride back to Anaheim was filled with cops and we got tight. That night we went to the movies, some people saw The Passion, some saw Starsky & Hutch. The Passion was a very graphic movie about the last hours of Jesus Christ. Very good. We play Pepperdine tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Wednesday, March 10, 2004 Woke up at 9:30 and went to get lunch at IHOP. Next up was a hike of about 1.5 hours to Pepperdine in Malibu. We were defeated 7-0 by the Waves, not an outcome we expected. The ride back was dissimilar to the Irvine match, very quiet. For dinner we got meal money and everyone pretty much split up. We found out the water park we were supposed to go to tomorrow was closed, so we are going to the beach.
Thursday, March 11, 2004 Woke up and went to McDonald's for breakfast. We sat by the pool for about an hour before our journey to the beach. After battling L.A. traffic we arrived in Huntington Beach. Best beach we've been to by far. A lot of people were out, the water was warmer with bigger waves and we played volleyball. A couple guys tried surfing to no avail. So we stuck with body boarding. After a few hours everyone was somber about the fact it was our last time at the beach and our hours in California were ticking away. Everyone just stayed in and ordered pizza so we could relax and pack. The time change of three hours is not going to be an easy adjustment. Going to try to get some sleep tonight since we are getting up at 4:30 a.m. for our flight back to Lansing. It was a great spring break!
