LANSING, Mich. - Officials announce that the City of Lansing and Michigan State University have come to an agreement to continue using Oldsmobile Park for Michigan State University baseball games. During their 2006 season, the MSU baseball team is scheduled to play eleven games at the facility. The contract is a five year extension on a previously agreed to deal, that will keep the team using this facility through 2010. The agreement comes with the much anticipated new field and renovations to the ball park.
"We are very excited to expand our relationship with the baseball team, the new head coach, David Grewe, and Michigan State University," stated Eric Hart, President and CEO of Lansing Entertainment & Public Facilities Authority. "We look forward to continuing a long and successful relationship."
As part of the agreement the University is increasing their financial commitment to the city to further cover the cost of operating the facility on a game to game basis. The agreement is mutually beneficial and will allow the continued use of Oldsmobile Park for many years to come.
Mayor Tony Benavides said, "The agreement provides an opportunity for the college players to play in a state of the art facility. This is a great experience for them and for Lansing."
"As the new Head Baseball Coach at Michigan State University, I am looking forward to building a strong and vibrant relationship with all those involved in this partnership between MSU, the City of Lansing and Oldsmobile Park. I believe that playing games at Oldsmobile Park is a tremendous benefit for both the players in our program and the City of Lansing," added David Grewe.
"We are pleased to extend our agreement between the City of Lansing and Michigan State University for another five year term. Our Spartan Baseball Program truly enjoys competing at the Oldsmobile Park Facility; it is a first-class venue and it is a wonderful way to take our team to the community.
