NEXT IN LINE: No. 46 Michigan State heads to Florida for a match-up with Fairfield outside the city of Orlando. The contest is scheduled for Wednesday, March 9, at 6 p.m.
FAIRFIELD'S RESUME: Fairfield enters the week coming off a 6-1 victory over Wittenberg and a 6-1 loss to Rochester. The Stags take on Kalamazoo and Grand Valley State Tuesday and Villanova Wednesday morning before battling Michigan State Wednesday night.
LAST TIME OUT: Michigan State fell to then-No.19 Harvard, 6-1, on the Crimson's home courts March 5. MSU's lone point came at the No. 3 singles position by Nick Rinks. State fell in tiebreakers in two of the doubles matches while Cameron Marshall and Adam Monich both played well in singles but dropped their respective matches, both of which went three sets.
FINALLY, NO ROOF: Weather permitting, MSU will play its first outdoor match of the year Wednesday as it finally visits warm enough weather to escape the comforts of indoor facilities.
ALMOST THERE: Head coach Gene Orlando is only three victories shy of the 200-career win mark. If the Spartans win their next three matches, No. 200 will occur on Louisville's courts March 20. If MSU loses one of its next three matches, Orlando will have the opportunity to pick up the milestone victory against rival Michigan in East Lansing, March 23.
SOPHOMORE SURPRISE: Second-year stand-out Joseph McWilliams has been rolling lately in dual-match play. Even though he lost his last contest against Harvard, McWilliams is 11-3 since tournament play ended in the fall, and 6-1 in his last seven singles matches.
