Women's Golf Finishes Third At 2005 Big Ten Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Due to the snowy weather on Sunday (April 24), the final round of the 2005 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich., has been cancelled. With the cancellation, Michigan State women's golf finished third at this year's championship with a three-round score of 933 (306-306-321).
Ohio State took top honors for a fourth-straight year as the Buckeyes finished atop the 11-team leader board with a 900 (297-296-307). Michigan (932), Michigan State (933), Purdue (938) and Northwestern (944) rounded out the top-five teams. Individually, the Buckeyes' Kristen White took medalist honors as she finished with a 222 (73-73-76).
Sophomore Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio) paced the way for the Spartans, finishing tied for fourth with a 227 (73-76-78). The fourth-place finish was the best of her career and marked her first top-five showing this season.
Sophomore Mandi McConnell (Grand Blanc, Mich.) finished tied for 12th with a 235 (77-79-79), while red-shirt freshman Kristen Polanski (Livonia, Mich.) sits three strokes behind with a 237 (78-76-83). Polanski tied for 16th overall to mark her second top-20 showing of the season and her best showing since a sixth-place finish at the Mary Fossum (Sept. 18-19).
Sophomore Rachel Meikle (Fort Wayne, Ind.) recorded her third top-20 finish of the season as she finished in a five-way tie for 18th. Meikle shot a 239 (81-77-81) in tournament action.
Rounding out the roster for the Green and White, junior Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) tied for 25th with a 241 (80-77-84) overall, while freshman Sara Brown (Tucson, Ariz.) finished tied for 34th with a 244 (78-81-85).
Michigan State will wait to find out if they have been invited to the NCAA Regionals when bids are announced this week. The NCAA Regionals will be held at three sites (East - Gainesville, Fla.; Central - Lubbock, Texas; and West - Las Cruces, N.M.) from May 5-7.
