EAST LANSING, Mich. - Head coach David Grewe and staff invite all of the great Spartan baseball alumni back to State for the 2005 Alumni Weekend which will take place Sept. 9-11 in East Lansing. The weekend will consist of golf, baseball, tailgate, football, fun and many Spartan memories. Former MSU All-American and two-time World Series Champion Kirk Gibson will be one of several guest speakers at the event.
The weekend kicks off Friday, Sept. 9 with a golf outing at Forest Akers West Golf Course with registration and a continental breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. Tee-off will follow at 9 a.m. with longest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt and beat the coach shot contests. Individuals may also sign-up to sponsor a hole at the outing. After hitting the greens, a buffet meal will be held in the banquet room at the golf course from 2-3 p.m. The day will conclude as everyone is welcome to attend a MSU baseball practice at Kobs Field from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
On Saturday afternoon in true Spartan spirit, a tailgate will be held at Kobs Field beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the MSU - Hawaii football game at 3:30 at the newly renovated Spartan Stadium. At noon, Grewe and others will speak about the Old College Field Project as well as the future of Spartan baseball highlighted by MSU baseball legend Kirk Gibson.
Gibson, a standout at MSU in both football and baseball, was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers. He spent 17 seasons in the major leagues collecting 1988 National League MVP honors and two World Championships with the 1984 Tigers and 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers. Gibson was recently elected as a national co-chair for the Michigan State University's fund-raising campaign for Old College Field which is aimed at making improvements to the entire baseball, softball and soccer complex.

Note from Coach David Grewe: I have quickly come to realize how SPECIAL the alumni truly are here at MSU. It has been overwhelming to me how many great individuals have taken the time to either write or call and wish me good luck. I can envision how powerful and explosive this group really can become. It was a primary goal of mine as the head baseball coach to assess the interest level of the baseball alumni and evaluate the level of commitment that currently exists.
In such a very short time, I can easily see the effect that Michigan State University has had on many of you. Now, with a combined effort of the entire baseball alumni and the current coaching staff, I am confident that we can reach the goals we all want to accomplish, and give the current and future Spartan players the total package of a great baseball experience and great college experience.
I am now asking for your support. You can start by attending this Alumni Weekend. I want to see all baseball alumni from every generation back on campus for the events planned. The tailgate will have several special guest speakers who will discuss the future of MSU Baseball. And most importantly, the entire weekend is for you! Let's enjoy stories and memories of the past and dreams of the future. I am looking forward to getting to know all those whom I have yet had the privilege of meeting. I thank you in advance for your contributions to the program. GO GREEN! David Grewe, Head Baseball Coach
