Katie Kelly Paces MSU Women At Spartan Invitational

Junior Katie Kelly (Port Austin, Mich.) set the pace for the Michigan State women's cross country team at the Spartan Invitational. Classmate Michelle Rafferty (Carmel, Ind.) and sophomore Lisa Senakiewich (Davison, Mich.) crossed the finish line in 10th and 11th place, respectively, with identical times of 21:38. Six of the top 20 finishers were Spartans; Emily Adama finished 16th, Katie Forsyth turned in an 18th place finish and Brittany Ballard was 20th.
Four freshmen, Laura Malnor (21st), Michelle Mercer (25th), Jennifer Hamilton (29th) and Sarah Price (33rd) turned in solid performances in just their second collegiate competitions.
The Spartans next competition is in two weeks, when they travel to South Bend, Ind. to take part in the Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30.
