Varsity Alumni Club Weekend Scheduled For Sept. 8-10

EAST LANSING, Mich. - All Michigan State varsity alumni letterwinners along with their families and friends are invited to attend the ninth-annual Varsity Club Weekend, scheduled for Sept. 8-10, 2005. The weekend offers opportunities to participate in a variety of activities designed to renew old friendships and create new memories. Attendees may participate in all or a select number of events.
The weekend kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 8 with a 5:30 p.m. cookout at the Varsity Alumni hotel headquarters, located Courtyard by Marriott (Lake Lansing Road in Lansing).
On Friday, Sept. 9, the group will join the Downtown Coaches Club for an 11 a.m. lunch at Hawk Hollow Golf Course. Following lunch, there will be a Varsity Club Room Open House at 1 p.m., including a tour of the new tower at Spartan Stadium. Campus bus tours will be conducted at 4 p.m. The Varsity Alumni Club Awards Banquet is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Kellogg Center, with MSU President Dr. Lou Anna Kimsey Simon serving as the keynote speaker and entertainment provided by Three Men and a Tenor. George Guerre (football, 1946-48) has been selected to receive the Jack Breslin Lifetime Achievement Award, while Mary Jo Hardy (volleyball, 1975-76) has been named recipient of the Nell Jackson Award with Don Johnson (wrestling, 1947) earning the Henry Bullough Award. In addition, 30-, 40- and 50-year anniversary awards will be presented along with honorary Varsity Club memberships to Carl Angelo, Pat Hayhoe and Jim Nelson.
Several teams have planned reunions in conjunction with the Varsity Club Weekend, including men's and women's track (1978-81), women's soccer, women's tennis (all years) and boxing (all years).
