EAST LANSING, Mich. - Juniors Adam Monich and Nick Rinks have qualified for the main draw of the ITA/Midwest Regionals (Oct. 19-24), hosted by the University of Minnesota. The doubles pairing earned a fourth-place ranking in the single-elimination tournament. Rinks also earned a singles bid, and will play as the No. 13 seed.
"This is the biggest tournament of the fall," MSU head coach Gene Orlando stated. "It is the best of the Midwest, and this is where you want to peak. We will face tough competition, but the guys have had a good fall thus far, and they have the talent to advance. The goal is to make it to the National Indoor Tournament."
Monich and Rinks are 2-1 this fall, winning both of their matches at the Cincinnati Invite. The two had an earlier exit than they would have liked at the ITA All-American Tournament, falling in the first round of qualifying. The pair was ranked No. 43rd in nation in the ITA preseason poll, after compiling a 14-10 record together last season.
Rinks is 5-1 on the season in singles action, with his only loss coming in the final round of the qualifying portion of the ITA All-American Tournament, in three sets. The Kalamazoo, Mich., native received a No. 77 ranking in the preseason national poll.
