EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team will compete in the Vredevelt Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan at West Hills Athletic Club, Oct. 27-29. DePaul and Marquette are also among those set to play.
"It's been about four weeks since we last competed," MSU head coach Gene Orlando said. "I can definitely see an improvement from where we were to now, and now hopefully that'll add up to some good results. We'll play a total of eight matches over three days, and that should allow us to get some good wins."
As a team, Michigan State has not played at an event since Sept. 22-24, when it traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio, for the ATP/Kings Island Classic. Sophomore Alex Forger (3-0) went unbeaten in singles action at the classic and will look to maintain his perfect record against some tough competition this weekend.
"All three teams competing played well at their regional tournaments last weekend," Orlando said. "We'll be challenged. All of our athletes will be playing higher than normal against these teams. Our goal is to put up some respectable results and gain confidence."
The Vredevelt Invitational begins Friday, Oct. 27 with doubles matchups at 5 p.m. The event will use a hidden duals format with teams squaring off in singles and doubles.
