EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's rowing team will head to South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame on Saturday. Racing will begin at 11:30 a.m. on the St. Joseph's River with the varsity eight event, followed by the novice eights (12 p.m.) and then the varsity fours and first eights exhibition (12:30 p.m.).
The last meeting between the two schools was during spring racing at the NCAA Championship, which saw MSU come away with a sixth-place team finish and the Fighting Irish end up in ninth.
Michigan State goes into the weekend after posting wins in four events (varsity eight, novice eight, flight 2 varsity four, and flight 2 novice eight) at the Head of the Grand last Sunday. The Spartans also had second-place finishes in the varsity eight and varsity four.
"We started to race well last week," said head coach Matt Weise. "Now we need to see if we can continue that as competition heats up. We will have to raise the level this weekend and next in order to be successful."
The Fighting Irish come into the race after opening their fall last weekend at the Head of the Rock. Notre Dame had three boats finish in the top ten of the varsity eight race, which included 24 boats. The top Notre Dame boat placed fourth, while the next two boats crossed the line in seventh and tenth place. The Notre Dame fours took first and second, while in the novice eight event the Irish were fourth and eighth in the field of 16.
