EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior guard Drew Neitzel (Grand Rapids, Mich.) has been named the men's basketball Big Ten Co-Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Nov. 20. Neitzel scored a career-high 21 points in the College Hoops Classic championship game against Maryland, in addition to posting a career-high four steals. The Spartan co-captain posted the game-winning basket against Texas on a driving layup with 2.4 seconds left, which put MSU into the championship game. He ended that game with 16 points, six rebounds and six assists.
After getting off to a slow start in the Spartans first game of the season, Neitzel has continued to improve, scoring 15 or more points in the next four. He is MSU's current team leader, and ranks 10th in the conference in scoring with 15.4 ppg.
The honor is the first in Neitzel's career. The last Michigan State player to receive the conference honor was Paul Davis on March 6, 2006.
