COLUMBUS, Ohio - Michigan State divers Katie Edwards and Danielle Williams competed in the finals of their events Saturday on the second day of competition at the 2006 NCAA Zone C Diving Qualifying Meet hosted by Ohio State at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The top 18 divers in the preliminaries qualify for the zone finals with those continuing on to the NCAA championships determined at the end of competition. The women divers are attempting to qualify for the NCAA championship, March 16-18, in Athens, Ga., while the men are competing to qualify for the NCAA championships, March 23-25, in Atlanta, Ga.
Competing in the 3-meter board, Edwards and Williams cracked the top 18 for the second day in a row, after having done so is the 1-meter event yesterday. On Saturday, Edwards placed 12th with a score of 519.05 and Williams took 16th, tallying 491.90 points.
"I am proud of our girls," head coach Eric Best stated. "They have worked really hard all year. They will need to finish out with really strong dives tomorrow, but they have at least put themselves in the race to qualify."
Competition continues tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the platform event for both men and women.
