With the 67-63 win over Kentucky, Michigan State improves its record to 24-9 on the season. The 24 wins on the season is the second most in a single season at MSU. Last season's 33-4 mark is the program record.
The win improves the Spartans' record to 2-4 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Making its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance, MSU's overall Tournament record improves to 10-6. Michigan State will make its second straight Sweet Sixteen appearance.
With the win, Joanne P. McCallie evens her coaching record at 9-9 in NCAA Tournament games, 8-3 with Michigan State.
Freshman Aisha Jefferson scored six of MSU's first eight points. Jefferson finished the game with 16 points and led the Spartans in scoring for the third time this season. Her 16-point effort was four points shy of matching her career high.
Michigan State trailed at halftime for the 11th time this season. With the win, the Spartans' record is now 5-6 when trailing after the first half.
Michigan State finished 14-for-18 from the free throw line, including 5-for-6 in the last minute. Kentucky finished the game 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
The Wildcats, who average 27.9 points off the bench, outscored the Spartans 25-8 off the bench.
Senior Liz Shimek grabbed eight rebounds, giving her 1,123 career rebounds and putting her in fourth on the Big Ten's all-time rebounding list.
