EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior guard Lindsay Bowen showed the nation Thursday night why she is the top long-range shooter in Spartan history. The Dansville, Mich., native, who is the all-time leader at MSU in 3-pointers (294) and 3-point field-goal percentage (.401), claimed the ESPN College 3-Point Championship with a dominating performance at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis before a nationally-televised audience. After tearing through the preliminary rounds, Bowen defeated Krista Rappahahn of Stanford in the women's final, then defeated Steve Novak of Marquette in the overall final.
Bowen opened the competition with 19 points to advance to the semifinals of the women's bracket. Bowen repeated her score of 19 points in the second round to advance to the finals against Rappahahn. Rappahahn shot first, and walked away with 19 points, but Bowen topped that effort with 21 points to claim the women's title.
In the overall final, Bowen crushed Novak to win the overall championship. Bowen was on fire, hitting 21 of her 25 shots - including 13 in a row at one point and making all five of her money balls that were worth two points - for a score of 26 points, the best of the night. Novak had 17 points.
The contest began a busy week for Bowen, who will play in the WBCA All-Star Challenge on Saturday, April 1 in Boston along with teammate Liz Shimek. The duo will participate in the WNBA Pre-Draft Camp on Monday, April 3 in preparation for the WNBA Draft on Wednesday, April 5 at 1 p.m. The draft will be televised live on ESPN2.
