
Spartans Suffer 4-3 Setback At Brown

Providence, R.I. - The Michigan State men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match, 4-3, to the Brown Bears on Saturday, March 4 in Providence R.I. The loss brings the Spartans overall record to 4-9 and 0-2 in the Big Ten while the No. 41 Bears advance to 10-2.
Michigan State got the first point of the day in doubles action with two of the three teams netting victories. At No. 1, the sophomore duo of Adam Monich and Nick Rinks defeated Phil Charm and Dan Hanegby, 8-2. The Spartans second doubles victory came at No. 2 with junior Joseph McWilliams and freshman John Allare earning an 8-6 win over Saurabh Kohli and Chris Lee.
In singles, the Spartans secured two more points but it was not enough to get the overall victory. At No. 1, Rinks quickly knocked off Hanegby, 6-4, 6-2, and at No. 2, Monich defeated Eric Thomas in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. The Bears then fought back from behind and netted the last four victories. At No. 3, Allare was defeated by Charm, 6-4, 6-1 and at No. 4, Kohli knocked off Flowers 6-0, 6-2. McWilliams fell to Lee, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, tying the match at 3-3. At No. 6, Basu Ratnam pulled out a 7-5, 6-1 victory over freshman Alex Forger to secure the match for the Bears.
Michigan State will stay on the road tomorrow when they head to Boston, Mass. to face the Harvard Crimson. The match will begin at 12 p.m.
