
Men's Tennis Opens Play At ITA Midwest Regional Championship

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's tennis completed day one of qualifying round action for singles at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship today in Ann Arbor, Mich. Freshmen John Allare is still in contention to earn a spot in the main draw with his victory on Thursday, but will need two more victories to secure his place.
Allare defeated Mike Shideler of Valparaiso, 6-4, 6-4. With two more victories on Friday he would earn a spot in the singles main draw on Saturday. Junior Joseph McWilliams fell, 6-4, 6-1 to Christian Bieirich of Iowa and will not advance in singles. After winning in the first set, 6-4, Alex Forger was defeated by Andrew Roth of Notre Dame, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Doubles action will begin tomorrow with three teams from MSU in the competition. Nick Rinks and Adam Monich, McWilliams and Michael Flowers and the duo of Allare and Scott Rasmussen are set to compete. Singles main-draw action will begin on Saturday with Monich and Rinks in competition.
