
MSU Varsity Eight Named Big Ten Boat Of The Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 7 Michigan State varsity eight shell has been named the Big Ten Boat of the Week after dominating crews from No. 16 Wisconsin and Iowa at a conference double-dual Saturday, April 15.
The Spartans defeated the Badgers by eight seconds in the morning race, finishing with a time of 6:22.6, then claimed an eleven second victory over the Hawkeyes with a time of 6:25.7.
The Michigan State varsity eight crew is made up of coxswain Beth Smith, Roz Bialczak, Kirsten Rasanen, Paula Thoms, Anne Cowan, Kate Burdick, Joanna Brown, Sarah Brady and Christen Brown.
The MSU varsity eight was last awarded weekly honors on April 18, 2005 for defeating the Badgers and the Hawkeyes in a double-dual in Belleville, Mich.
The Spartans have the week off before traveling to St. Paul, Minn. to defend their team Big Ten Championship title on April 29.
