EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State (19-18, 8-8 Big Ten) baseball will play host to Toledo in a non-conference match up this Wednesday, April 26 at Kobs Field. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. Toledo is one of five Mid-American Conference opponents State faces this year.
"I am looking forward to competing against one of the better MAC opponents," MSU head coach David Grewe stated. "All games are important for us and we know that Toledo is a good team. I have personal ties with their head coach, Cory Mee, who was also an assistant here at Michigan State, so it is great to have Toledo on our schedule."
Last Meeting Between MSU and Toledo: In the two schools last meeting on March 29, 2005, the Rockets edged Michigan State, 9-7, in Toledo.
Last Time Out For MSU: Michigan State and Minnesota waited out an hour and 45-minute rain delay on April 23 Kobs Field, but the Spartans fell in the shortened contest, 6-3, to split the series with the Golden Gophers. Scheduled to be a nine-inning outing, Sunday's game went just seven innings, due to the rain delay and travel arrangements.
Toledo Takes On IPFW On Tuesday: Toledo will put its 19-17 record up against IPFW on Tuesday, before traveling to East Lansing. In weekend play, UT won the rubber match of its three-game MACe series with Western Michigan by an 8-4 margin at overcast and rainy Scott Park on Sunday, April 23.
Toledo vs. the Big Ten: The Rockets are 2-1 against Big Ten opponents this season, having beat Penn State (6-5) and Michigan (10-9, 10 innings). Ohio State upended UT 8-5.
Next On The Slate: Michigan State returns to Big Ten action April 28-30, facing rival Michigan in a four-game series. The schools will split venues, playing Friday and Sunday's contest in Ann Arbor and Saturday's doubleheader at Oldsmobile Park in Lansing.
