Ryan Basham Named First-Team All-Big Ten

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior outfielder Ryan Basham (Lowell, Ind.) was named First-Team All-Big Ten, as released by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Basham led Michigan State in almost every offensive category and finished the regular season ranked among the top five in the Big Ten in batting average, slugging percentage, total bases, sacrifice flies, RBI and home runs. It was the first such honor of his career, having collected third-team honors in 2005.
"It is a very deserving honor of a young man that swung the bat well this year," MSU head coach David Grewe stated. "Ryan has a great natural swing and a bright future ahead of him."
Basham recorded a .363 overall batting average (73-for-201) this season, while hitting .379 (44-for-116) in conference contests. Pounding out a total of eight home runs, two triples and 12 doubles, Basham finished second in the Big Ten with 53 RBI. He struck out just 23 times, while drawing 20 walks.
Basham received Most Valuable Players honors for his efforts this year at the 2006 MSU baseball banquet, on May 22 at the LaSalle Bank Club.
Kyle Day was named as Michigan State's recipient for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, presented to one athlete from each participating institution.
