SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sophomore Nicole Bush (Wyoming, Mich.) set a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase late Wednesday night at the NCAA Track and Field Championships and advanced to the finals of the event. Bush, needing to place in the top 14 to advance, ran the third fastest qualifying time in 10:09.67. She set the previous record of 10:10.94 earlier this season at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. The finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase are set for Friday, June 9 at 9:35 p.m. ET. Live results will be available at www.ncaasports.com.
Junior Brad Gebauer (Bad Axe, Mich.), who earned All-America honors during the indoor season for his fourth-place finish at the 2006 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, could not duplicate his efforts at the national outdoor meet. Gebauer opted to pass on the height of 5.00 meters (16-4 3/4), but missed his first two attempts at 5.15 meters (16-10 3/4) before making the height on his third and final try. The Big Ten indoor and outdoor champion didn't advance to the final round, however, after missing all three tries at 5.30 meters (17-4 1/2), the height needed to advance.
Sophomore Jeremy Orr (Detroit) ran his third fastest time of the season in the 400 meters with a 46.46, but still came up just short to advance to the semifinal round. Orr, needing to place in the top 16, placed 18th overall out of 26 competitors.
