EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State sophomore guard Travis Walton (Lima, Ohio) has been selected to travel with the Big Ten Men's Basketball Foreign Tour Team. The tour, which runs from Aug. 8-18, is scheduled to include four games in Australia.
"I'm looking forward to meeting some of the players from the other teams and getting to know them better," said Walton. "I played some basketball in Italy when I was in high school, and I'm excited to be able to travel again. On the court, I just want to continue working on what I've been doing all summer; improving my shooting and becoming more of a team leader."
Walton appeared in all 34 games as a reserve in 2005-06, averaging 18.7 minutes per game, tops among all Spartan reserves. He ranked fourth on the team with 81 assists (2.4 apg), leading the squad in five contests. He also ranked second on the team with 36 steals (1.1 spg), while averaging 1.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest.
Michigan head coach Tommy Amaker will lead the Big Ten squad. Walton's teammates on the trip include Illinois' Marcus Arnold (F, Sr.), Indiana's Roderick Wilmont (G, Sr.), Iowa's Seth Gorney (C, Jr.), Michigan's Lester Abram (G, Sr.) and Jerrett Smith (G, So.), Minnesota's Jonathan Williams (C, So.), Northwestern's Tim Doyle (G/F, Sr.), Ohio State's Ron Lewis (G, Sr.), Penn State's Michael Walker (G, Jr.) and Purdue's Gordon Watt (G, Jr.).
