
Spartan Rowers Gain International Experience

East Lansing, Mich. - Three members of the Michigan State rowing team have spent their summer training with national teams. MSU junior Anne Cowan earned a spot on the Canadian under-23 team, while fellow Canadian Erika Shaw earned a spot on the junior national team. Former Spartan Christen Brown has earned a spot on the 85-person roster for the United States 2006 National Team.
Cowan (London, Ontario) competed for Canada at the 2006 Under-23 championships in Hazewinkel, Belgium from July 9-11. Cowan finished third in the "B" final of the coxless pair event with a time of 8:08.28, good for a ninth place finish overall.
Shaw, an incoming freshman, represented Canada at the 2006 Junior World Championships in Amsterdam, from Aug. 2-5. Shaw placed fourth in the "A" final of the coxless pair event, finishing behind Germany, Belgium and Romania.
Brown has been named a spare for the United States National Team set to compete at the 2006 FISA World Championships scheduled for Aug. 20-27, in Eton, England.
