BELLEVILLE, Mich. - The Michigan State rowing team fell to Michigan in four of five exhibition races held at Belleville Lake on Saturday, but defeated crews from Eastern Michigan. Although no official results were kept, four of the five races saw a Michigan boat come out on top. In the final race of the day, one of the Spartan crews pulled out a victory.
"It's a learning curve here right now," said head coach Matt Weise. "I think we need to have more confidence and a better mindset come race time. We didn't get out-rowed. I think we just got out-pulled."
The four-minute races allowed the teams to test their fitness against competitors at the beginning of the year.
