COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at Ohio State Sunday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. OSU's Lisa Collison scored twice as the Buckeyes moved to 9-5-0 on the season. The match will air on the Big Ten Network on Monday night at 8 p.m.
OSU's first goal came on the tail end of a corner kick in the 29th minute. Ashley Bowyer lofted the corner into traffic. MSU goalkeeper Nicole Galas couldn't quite clear the try, and OSU's Lauren Beachy took the carom and fed Collison, who buried the shot for her third goal of the season.
Collison scored again at the 52:40 mark on a pass from Lara Dickenmann. Alex Burzynski provided the final margin at the 66:44 mark on a breakaway. Mitchell stripped the ball from an MSU defender and fed Burzynski, who tallied her fourth goal of the season.
"I thought we had a lot of good play," head coach Tom Saxton said. "We put a lot of pressure on them, but couldn't put anything away. It's the same story we've had recently."
Galas made eight saves for the Spartans. OSU's Lauren Robertson stopped three saves for the shutout. Sophomores Lauren Sinacola and Lauren Hill and senior Maureen Pawlak each had two shots to lead the MSU attack.
Michigan State returns to action on Friday, Oct. 19 against Wisconsin.
