COLUMBUS, Ohio - Both Spartan swimming & diving teams stand in fifth place after one day of competition at the Ohio State Invitational. Junior diver Danielle Williams and fellow junior Marlys Fuqua led the women's team, while the men's team was driven by strong relay performances. Thirteen men's teams (including six Big Ten schools) and 12 women's teams (six Big Ten) are competing in the event.
Williams registered a final score of 290.73 in three-meter diving to place sixth among a very competitive field. Fuqua placed eighth in the 500 free (5:04.28).
The Spartan men were led by the 200 free and 400 medley relay teams. Adam and Joe Schmitt, Matt Massman and Mark Healey combined to place fourth in the 400 medley relay (1:23.23), while Jon LaRocque, Kevin Puskaric, Marcus Poteete and Adam Schmitt collectively placed sixth in the 200 free relay (3:20.33).
"We're a little off to where I wanted to be, but we're swimming really well," Gianiodis said. "This is a very strong field, and we swam pretty solid."
