SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Michigan State University track and field team traveled to South Bend, Ind., on Friday for day one of competition at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame. The team started off day one with a first and third place finish in the men's and women's 1,000 meter run, as the majority of the MSU's participating athletes will compete in Saturday's events.
After Friday competition, which included various field and running events, junior Lisa Senakiewich finished in first place in the women's 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:53.47.
"Lisa is coming back from an injury and I am really pleased with her performance. I felt she made great progress from last week and can be a Big Ten scorer in future conference meets," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Walt Drenth.
Junior mid-distance runner Jim Pancoast placed third with a time of 2:26.66 in the 1,000 meter run, while junior Meagan Halliwill threw a personal-best 16m-93 in the 20-pound weight throw.
The Green and White continue competition at the Meyo Invitational on Saturday. The first event of day two is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
