Michigan State Head Coach Rick Comley
Opening statement...
It was a win that we had to get or else our season was probably over. Who would have ever dreamed that those two goaltenders would ever give up 13 goals, but we'll take it and we look forward to next weekend.
On playing in a high scoring game...
I've played in enough consolation games to know that they're usually high scoring. We had Lake Superior, whose season was over and they definitely did not play a "Lake Superior" style tonight. I thought we were safe a couple of times but I told our guys afterwards, "Don't worry about it, you got done what you had to get done."
On Lake Superior...
If there's one thing about Lake Superior it's that they're strong. They battle and they make it hard for you. I think Perkovich is an outstanding hockey player and they just kept coming and coming.
Lake Superior State Head Coach Jim Roque
Overall impressions...
I guess it was an entertaining game. There were lots of goals and lots of action. It's a tough way to lose a game in overtime, on a power play goal. I thought we weren't mentally sharp at times but I thought our effort was great and our guys never quit. We could have quit at any time during that game but our guys wanted to put on a good show for our fans that made the trip.
Michigan State Junior Defenseman Daniel Vukovic
On his two goals...
Both of the goals were set up by great passes. On the first one, Zak McClellan made a great play to me in the slot, and on the second one Tyler Howells passed it to me and I had an easy one-time shot. I just got lucky that it hit the post and went in.
On getting a big victory...
I think that this was a win that we needed and we got the win in overtime so that always helps team morale. I think that will really help us going into the tournament next week and we'll go into this week of practice on a good note.
Michigan State Senior Defenseman Tyler Howells
On his game-winning goal...
I saw Vukovic wind up and I thought there might be a big rebound so I headed towards the net. The puck ended up right on my stick and all I had to do was push it in there.
